A new school for KEKELI

As Nadia, the administrative assistant in charge of the Kekeli Center, told us in November 2012, the Hanoukopé Market was officially transferred from the shantytown to make way for a new road.

The city of Lomé built a new market with concrete stalls located some 500 meters from the slum, meaning that the Kekeli Center had to build another facility in the new location. The work is practically completed, as you can see in the photos Nadia sent us. The Kekeli Center now boasts two buildings on two different sites: one in the market where the children work and one in the shantytown where the families live in extreme poverty.

The issue today is that the building is empty. There are no teaching aids, no blackboard, no benches, no desks, nothing.

This is why I’m asking you, fellow Colas employees and internet users, to donate. The Kekeli Center needs your support to get the job done.

Many donations were made on International Human Solidarity Day in December and I do thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your generosity will bring joy and hope to the children at the Kekeli Center. Unfortunately, there is still not enough money to buy furniture for the new building. The estimate for 50 benches and 30 desks amounts to more than 6,000 euros!

For your information, you may continue to donate throughout the year, via the GoodPlanet Foundation, chaired by Yann Arthus Bertrand, Colas’ partner in the On the Road to School adventure. Your money will go directly to the Kekeli Center and I can personally guarantee that it will be used well because I have seen what the Center can do, and how much help they provide to the children: access to education, remedial writing, arithmetic, professional training, etc. What they do is very concrete, and can really make a difference in each child’s life.

Do know that before I accepted to be part of this adventure, I asked for guarantees that all donations would be put to good use. I hope you will all join me in supporting the Kekeli Center.
